CD Storage

Posted by: Dobbin on 17 November 2000

I have over a 1000 cd's on the floor, in cardboard boxes under the stairs, in cupboards in the dining room; under my desk at work...you get the picture!
I want to find someone who can custom build a wife approved piece of furniture to solve my storage problem.
Live nr Guildford in Surrey - anyone know anyone who has done this??

I'm thinking wood? Light oak or ash. I'm thinking drawers with all my CD's arrayed in alpha order.

You could always go the Case Logic route (i.e. the photo album style cases which hold the disc and liner notes in pouches). Takes massively less space and is much tidier and more discrete than jewel cases in my experience.

Their largest size stores 256 CDs (or 128 with liner notes) so you would get 1000 CDs in 4 (or 8) albums. They are easily stored on any sort of shelving you might have.

Widely avaialable in places like HMV or try the web site

Visit Ikea, most of their storage options are non offensive, cheap and can be finished as you wish. Buy more Cd's with the money you save, the other half will think you have gone all 'new man' when you suggest a visit.

Both were made to my design (i.e to the size I wanted) by a local cabinet maker (Devon). Most of his work is exported to the states (reproduction antique).

Mmmm, reproduction antique, could be just the guy to build Mick a flamboyant and ornately carved Victorian style Mana facade.

Tony.

Who is buying a stark post modernist apartment to match the Mana.

David,

Have you looked at the Hutter stuff? In addition to wood-based HiFi stands they make CD (and LP) storage pieces - which could, of course, match if you so wished. Reasonably aesthetic, I think.

I recently got a brochure from Phonography, their UK dealer: 2 Star Lane, Ringwood, Hants BH24 1AL. Tel 01425 461230. Contact is Phil March: phil.march@virgin.net

I will probably continue to store mine conveniently on wooden shelves.
