Reselling activity of Naim kit in US.....

Posted by: ianrmack on 13 November 2004

Greetings,

This is more informational than editorial yet there is an astounding level of reselling activity on the US internet site that defies immediate explanation. (www.audiogon.com)
Although I purchased my kit at from my local dealer, I periodically check the listings, well, just for the hell of it. In the mot too distant past, there were 30 or so listings with some misc. Olive kit and some Nait 5s or CD5s. When a CDX2 would come up, it would be gone that day.

Now, however, there must be close to 100 listings. Some wackos are selling their entire rigs.....I'm talking CDS3/252/300/Fraim in one instance and cdx2/xps2/282/250 in another. Plus there are multiple listings for 282s, CDX2s, XPS2s, etc.

Draw your own conclusions here. It speaks well for Naim's NA penetration, or........not. An occasional perusal of eBay's Naim listings usually just yields some cables and Chrome kit from the UK. But this new level of used gear available is indeed astonishing.

If the URL below does not work, udiogon.com and enter "Naim" in the search bar. It's yet another unfair form of teasing the aspiring refernce listener with lots of goodies more within our reach.

I just checked it, seems there is a bit more activity than usual but I'm accustomed to seeing a search on Naim at Audiogon to yield about that level of gear.
I agree that there are more entire systems for sale than I've normally seen. Don't know what that's about. Wonder what equipment they're going to?
Could be they aren't getting good trades at the dealers or they just want to go it on their own to see how much better they can do. But I find it unlikely that a CDS3/252/300/Fraim user would be trading "up" the entire system, at least for more Naim.
And who would be the buyer for that kind of deal? Most of us are trading single black boxes up for the next one.
Maybe we could blame Bush's economics for that... Well, it would have to be done next door in the Padded Cell anyway.
I've bought and sold on Audiogon and have had great experiences so far. Seems to attract a better crowd than the usual ebay type.

Maybe they've fallen on hard times, and just need to free up the cash? Is there some sort of down-turn under way in your economy?

There was a joke on here somewhere about people emigrating from the States after the election, but that just seems ridiculous.

cheers, Martin

Maybe the owners are non-US and returning home........
