Is it possible to get WYWH sealed and new? All I ever see are used vinyl copies of the original pressing.

Curious if anyone knows, and if so, where I might be able to locate a copy.

Thanks

Are you talking about Vinyl or CD? You can certainly get new CD's of WYWH

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

I've been trying for a while to find WYWH on new vinyl, or a s/h copy in good order, and have failed so far.

As far as I know, Roger Waters has been causing difficulty with the reissue of old PF stuff on vinyl, but I've only been told this by the local retailer who specialises in s/h and new vinyl. It has been available on special order until recently (about 1 year ago).

If you have any luck, email me because I will be wanting one, regardless of cost.

There’s one available (new) at Audiophile International for a whopping $250.00 Eek

Or take your chances with GEMM (new?) for $16.20

Thanks guys. Yes, I was referring to the vinyl version.

Lapdog, the Audiophile version appeared to be the original pressing (1975) from the description given. And I think I would be doing exactly what you said "take your chance" with the GEMM site.

Deane,
It seems weird that PF would have vinyl reissues with DSOTM and The Wall but not WYWH?!? Maybe we'll get a mobile fidelity or 30th year anniversary (like DSOTM) in 2005? I definetly will keep an eye open and will let you know if I hear/find something.

It does seem weird to me. When I made enquiries at the local shop it was apparent that there had been recent reissues of DSOTM and The Wall but not WYWH. Which is <rant> just typical, isn't it, given that WYWH is the only piece of vinyl I really want in mint, near mint, or new and it's the only one I can't get <rant finished>. It could be a Syd Barrett thing?

Oh well. If I can't eventually find it I'll have to buy a CD player. Of course <bitter rant> the week after I buy a CD player and WYWH on CD it will be reissued on vinyl <bitter rant finished>.

There will be a WYWH vinyl in '05; the first bit of official WYWH 30th anniv. merchandise has hit the streets (a calendar). I fully expect CD and LP to appear this spring/summer. PF and their record companies worldwide are too savvy.

Cheers for that. I will be watching for it. PF are indeed a very savvy group and Roger Waters especially I think.

JonR, I did have a cheap Sony CD player that I used for Roger Waters Amused To Death but I traded it so I could get my Nait 3 quicker. Don't miss it really. Of course, if I win the lottery (never buy tickets though...) I understand there are good CD players that sound like vinyl for just under $25,000 NZD.

Merry christmas everyone. Better turn off the PC and start cooking.

I apologize in advance if I make anyone feel jealous Big Grin

Turns out that admist my father's old lp collection he has, in very good condition, PF's WYWH!

I just received my first TT (rega p3) and it was one of the first records to get a spin. Simply astounding! Beats the pants off the cd version.

For some reason my dad was more inclined to play Led Zepp and Black Sabbath records (most of which aren't listenable), but WYWH was saved.

Sorry Deane.

Lucky sod. Unfortunately Pink Floyd didn't do much for my wife in the seventies otherwise we'd have it - but she does have everything that Emerson Lake and Palmer, Steven Stills, Crosby Nash Stills and Young ever did on vinyl, all still in immaculate condition. Also Chicago No 1 and 2. Doesn't do a lot for me but its an interesting listen at times.

David Gilmour does a lot of subtle things in his lead breaks that one hears on a good TT but I have not found so noticeable on CD.

I've just bought a copy of WYWH with the black wrapper still in place - opened, though.

I'm planning on looking through a few s/h record stores while I'm in the UK mid-2005. Hopefully I'll come across a good copy. Every single copy I've looked at in NZ in s/h stores has been scratched. I think peole who treat records that badly need a good shaking and a sharp slap.

I've now played it, and its an early press as evidenced by the postcard having a wavy edge. It came a collection sold to the LRS and I must say, it sounds stunning. Amongst the best sounding albums I have.

I'll take it to a forthcoming soiree to see what others think.

I have this LP and it is the best-sounding of the many (14) WYWHs I have. Worth bidding on if you have the dough.

Geez Kevin. The world is such an unfair place. Winker

Harumph.

Seems like 95% of the WYWH wealth is owned by 5 percent of the turntable population.

I've just bought a copy from a NZ auction site that is described as excellent with no visible scratches so I'll have to play it when it arrives and see if its a good copy. A bit of a punt but that's auction sites I suppose.

One indicator of an early pressing ( which, conventional wisdom has it are the best ) is to look at the postcard that comes with it - if it has a crinkly edge, its an early cut.

Nick, just to let you know, they are:

1. UK early pressing (with crinkly postcard)
2. Standard US pressing (early 80s)
3. Half speed mastered US pressing (ie the one that's on eBay)
4. German early 80s pressing
5. UK late 1980s pressing (straight-edged postcard)
6. Japanese pressing on CBS-Sony
7. EMI 1997 UK pressing with gatefold sleeve
8. Canadian pressing, late 1970s
9. Blue vinyl Dutch pressing (1978?)
10. French pressing, 1978
11. US pressing from 1990s (no inner bag, no postcard!)
12. Picture disc (looks like a Spanish bootleg rather than a genuine pressing)
13. Mexican pressing
14. Russian pressing

I also have 4 versions on CD:
1. 1992 remaster
2. Gold Mastersound US version
3. Version in the Shine On box set
4. 25th anniversary edition (really dinky - an exact facsimile of the original LP, complete with black shrink wrap and miniature postcard).

Kevin

I think I have even more versions of "Dark Side"...

Mike

I'd consider myself very lucky to find a secondhand copy with all the original bits. I just want a good copy that's clean and plays quietly. I dont care about condition of sleeve or anything else - just how it plays. If I lived in the UK or US it would be a hell of a lot easier to collect collectable vinyl but from down here it's a struggle so I just content myself with the music.

Looking forward to the arrival of my Trademe.co.nz purchase.

So, I'll take it that you like Pink Floyd...

I think the Gold Mastersound version is the best-sounding of the CDs; any thoughts?
