Someone shut this idiot up now please!

Have just been listening to The Moral Maze on BBC Radio 4 (I know it's bad for you, but we all do things we shouldn't) and am seething with rage.
The reason? That idiot Melanie Philips. For those who don't know her, she's a columnist for the Daily Mail and is a right-winger so cretinous she makes Janet Daley look like Wittgenstein; so ghastly in her illiberalism she makes Taki seem like A Good Bloke; so ill-informed she makes that arsehole Chris Woodhead seem clued-up.
They were all talking about the legacy of the 1960s – was that decade responsible for the current sorry state of Britain (of course, it depends on how far you believe Blighty has degenerated in the four decades since).
As ever, Philips demonstrated her moral and intellectual bankruptcy with a series of homilies on the virtues of socially stigmatising unmarried mothers, atheists, lefties, homosexuals, couples living in sin and anyone else whose sexual activities or proclivities deviate from her own obviously immaculate standards.
What I want to know is, what oaf gives this woman airtime? One would expect Dacre and his lackeys to give her poisonous, ill-thought-out, utterly ill-informed drivel space at the [i]Mail [\i], but the BBC? Bring back bloody David Starkey!
Does anyone out there actually like/agree with her?
