Should SBL's be sitting on a base?

Reading the thread about spikes on a wooden floor,
I startered wondering about what effect various
kinds of bases might have. Currently, they are only separated from my pine floor by coins that prevent the spikes from sinking into the tender wood.

I would bet this issue has been raised before. Has any concensus emerged from previous discussions?

Are your floors concrete or wood.......that can make one big difference. I must admit to thinking about Mana SBL stands

I have a pair of Castle Harlech speakers kicking about; I'm selling these (to finance some new speakers) and the SBL stands I had them on are up for sale - first offer of £125 gets them (they're about £200ish new, IIRC); mine are 4 months old.
