Mugabe allows all journalists in at the last moment

So putting the Cricket bods ( whatever they are called ) into a quandary about playing or going... making the UK look daft... and he wets himself laughing at us.

I can see it now.....

.....and so our cricketers find themselves going on a worthless tour where no-one wants to see either the appallingly one-sided cricket or the publicity given to the Mugabe regime.

Peter Hain (IMO possibly the greasiest man in politics, except perhaps Hoon, and that's a close call) admits today that the tour will provide a boost to Mugabe, but that "the ECB is not a department of the government and it's free to make its own decisions ".

The government should put up or shut up. Everybody knows that the ECB would have preferred not to tour Zimbabwe and, in fact, tried everything it could to avoid the tour without incurring swingeing fines from the ICC (whose attitude has been unfathomable from the start). If the ECB is "free to make its own decisions", the government should shut up about them once they have been made. If the government wants the ECB not to tour Zimbabwe, it has only to officially recommend that the tour should not happen and then, because the ICC cannot impose fines in this circumstance, the tour would not go ahead.

Rhe ECB may be "free to make its own decisions" sadly the press will only be allowed to submit Mugabe approved copy. Let's hope the team have the balls to say stuff em and not go.
