Dynaudio Contour 1.8's. Speaker Grilles on or off?

What is usually recommended for these speakers? They are firing straight ahead in a slightly hard room.

Jaybar. I can not assist you but I have auditioned these speakers and I am curious as to other than firing straight in a hard room if you are happy with these speakers. What naim equipment are you using. Living in NYC speakers sound much better at the dealer and then you take them home and the music vibrates off the walls both front, back and side. I believe that these speakers are back ported and dynaudio supplies foam to plug the port. Perhaps that would help? I am considering the 1.8, any other comments would be appreciated.

Phil:

I love the speakers. They involve me in the music w/o keeping me on the edge of my seat with hyper detail. With the grilles on, the bass is fuller, sound is warmer. I am using them with a Spectral amp/pre-amp, Linn LP 12, NAIM CD5 with high-cap. Room has some accoustic treatment, but is still hard. Control of bass with an amp with highly damped bass is key. The bass on Spectral gear is very tight and lean which complements these speakers. If you e-mail me with your phone number (private e-mail), perhaps we can talk in more depth over the phone. Maybe you could even listen at my place....

Mine are on, mainly for aesthetic reasons though. I've usually got nothing against naked drive units, but I don't really like the look of these speakers with the grilles off.

By the way, I have noticed that the unexposed veneer under the grilles has now gone a very different colour to the rest of the cabinets that are exposed to the light (funnily enough, it is actually a lighter colour underneath).

So if you're going to go grilles off, you should do it before this happens to yours.

Yes, they are a cherry finish. Thanks for the info.
