Dynaudio Contour 1.8's. Speaker Grilles on or off?

I love the speakers. They involve me in the music w/o keeping me on the edge of my seat with hyper detail. With the grilles on, the bass is fuller, sound is warmer. I am using them with a Spectral amp/pre-amp, Linn LP 12, NAIM CD5 with high-cap. Room has some accoustic treatment, but is still hard. Control of bass with an amp with highly damped bass is key. The bass on Spectral gear is very tight and lean which complements these speakers. If you e-mail me with your phone number (private e-mail), perhaps we can talk in more depth over the phone. Maybe you could even listen at my place....
By the way, I have noticed that the unexposed veneer under the grilles has now gone a very different colour to the rest of the cabinets that are exposed to the light (funnily enough, it is actually a lighter colour underneath).
So if you're going to go grilles off, you should do it before this happens to yours.
