Spotify / Iphone / Dac

I just discovered you can use spotify on the iphone to both stream and/or play from downloaded tracks. Downloaded playlists are predictably much better but it's a complete winner for trying new music.

With the new version (4.2, any day now) you can have wireless sound out from the iphone/ipos/ipad to an Airport Express or AppleTV (2nd gen) which in turn can be connected to a Naim Dac.
Great way to add spotify and internet radio :-)

Or if you have Squeezebox or Sonos connected to your HiFi (I think Sonos has been recently enabled), then you can play directly from your Spotify account. If you have a hi quality DAC (e.g. Naim DAC) then you can enjoy even better quality sound.
Its brillint!

How does a high quality DAC make 128kbps sound better? If anything I would say it makes it worse. I would venture the other way and say if you have a iPod dock in your car, or a really generic pair of earbuds, then you can enjoy even better quality sound.
The few times I have played Pandora on my listening computer, I routed the audio through my 5.1, much better, seriously.

Patrick, Spotify premium is 320kbps in the UK, and to be honest tend to download the playlist to the phone rather than steam it. Not as good as the HDX\XPS\DAC obviously but great for checking out new music.
I was not crazy on the streaming sound quality but its not bad considering.
System is 552/500 so relatively revealing.

My HDX will return reborn as a HDX-SSD tomorrow after a long wait. Which is why I have been running spotify for a while and 320kbps sounds surprisingly o.k. even through the best I can do right now (which is Logitech Transporter + Naim DAC).
