As much as a majority of us may know better this is seriously heading off the student market, imagine a kid in his dorm with one of those and an iPod, he/she will be made up.

I admit to not fully understanding the medium, but can readily see its appeal to a generation.
I can also see a future where we have music stored to a non moving (solid state) device that is capable of being re-played from multiple devices.
My eldest' daughter just took one look & said.. thatll be to expensive, I just rip it to the hard drive & play back thru headphones or the stereo attatched to the laptop. My youngest took one look and said I want one for my bedroom! Fashion + Music. Is Apple fi the equivalent to B&O?

Such as MP3's on memory cards?

The biggest issue for the audiophile is that MP3 or similar offer the perfect combination of cheapness (or free), jukeboxability and adequate quality for the non audiophile - its this combination that has made it so popular.

The difference on my system is obvious but on my mothers system which is based around an ipod the difference between and MP3 and a CD is minimal.

I know the proof of the pudding is in the listening but first impressions are £250 for one of those, or £50 or so for a set of cheap active monitors?

Yup, my point exactly! Even Bose has an Ipod base station, though I shudder to think how much that is.
