Do I HICAP the CD3.5 or NAC72

I know many people have varying opinions and my ears are having trouble picking the better of the 2 so can anyone say which is 'supposed' to be better.

I use a CD5 with a 72 and 180, I tried swapping between them both with the hi cap and in the end left it on the 72.

Difference was with CD5 more detail but narrower soundstage and "openess" if their is such a word. With 72 was the opposite to this. As I play vinyl as well I opted for the hi cap with 72 and now will save for a second hand hi cap for the CD5. I don't think there is a right or wrong way it's down to your own preference.

I have heard others say that this is because the Hicap only powers a small amount of the CD5, and it therefore has a greater effect on a 72????
I think it makes more of a difference to a CD3.5, but I may be wrong.

Mystik, do you have any other source components??? If so, put the Hicap on the 72 and it will improve them all.

good luck

If you have only one power supply, then put it on the 3.5, because the 3.5 needs that extra boost to be "acceptable". If, however, you have two supplies, then put the better of the two on your pre-amp, because it will benefit from the extra help more than the 3.5.

For example, in your case you want to go with 3.5/Hi/72. If you get a Flat-Cap, Flat-Cap2 or SNAPS2, then reconfigure it as 3.5/Flat/72/Hi. If you get a Super-Cap, then sell the Flat-Cap and set it up as 3.5/Hi/72/Super. Of course, that would be a silly system, and you would be much better with CDX/72/Hi.
