What's above a DV-XX2? What works best with an ARO?

I know there are alot of cartridges more expensive than the XX2 but are the sonic gains significant? or more subjective? I'm running a fully Naimed LP12.
What are the ultimate cartridges with an ARO/Prefix combo? Best value?

Ross-
Hello. I looked back at posts here and Rico advocates using the S board with Dynavectors as well. It is a shame you never had a chance to try the xx-2 with S boards as the difference in the cartridge's performance between the K and S is musically important and addresses your concerns. Might have saved you a couple of dozen posts cautioning people away from the xx-2. Or maybe not.

It seems to me that there was a go around about all this a year or two ago when Vuk got his XX2. He felt that the "K" prefix was the proper match. I'm pretty sure it was his "Beware nude photo" post(that is a "nude" XX2.)
I think that it was Dave Dever who responded as he had a new XX2 and felt that the "K" board was over the top. Excessive silibance or something like that. The more limited bandwidth of the "S" board got rid of the silibance and resolved the problem. There may have been an excessive gain issue too as I think the "K" is more sensitive than the "S"
I don't remember if Vuk ever agreed with him about this or not. Seems to me that Dave Dever would be in a pretty good position to know though as he would have had all the kit available to try out.

Arthur,
Vuk bought a K Prefix before he got the XX-2. (He bought the Prefix back when he was using an XX-1L, and, although he was in the minority on this, he did prefer K loading with the XX-1L.)
All we can safely say is that K loading works sufficiently well with an XX-2 for Vuk that he can't be bothered to try an S Prefix or have his K version modded. But I wouldn't conclude that K is best or that Vuk would necessarily choose K over S.

on the off chance there is another person considering a dynavector cartridge via an LP12/aro and exposure 13...when my arkiv 1 finally reached the end of its' road, i "downgraded" to an XX-1L, which to my surprise turned out to be a big improvement over the arkiv 1. i find the XX-1L more dynamic, more lively, and more musical than the arkiv. the arkiv sounded rather dull in comparison, due to it being worn out, perhaps. just another data point.

Hi all:
A few posts above John asked:
"Mark, does the XV-1 have a mass issue with the ARO?"
You have to use the heavier counterweight with the XV-1, so all in all the arm/cartride combination is pretty zesty in the weight department. I was a little worried about that at first but after testing I found the resonance frequency of the set up to be 9-10Hz, which is fine.
Best Regards,
Mark Dunn

Groovers
If I recall correctly, the Ekos was actually designed to work with the Troika. Now I have never owned either, but it would seem to me prudent to try either the Troika, or the current King of the Hill, the Akiva.
OK it ain't cheap, but mine continues to make me smile.
