Wow, that is cheaper than Singapore. Specially once you remove the 17.5% tax.

Surely you expect prices to be cheaper in the Country of production?

Hi gusi,
I don't think Naim is any cheaper in England for new equipment because of the UK taxes.

My understanding is that Singapore prices are the same as UK retail minus 17.5%. Then in Singapore add 4% .... but but for someone taking the items out of Singapore there is a 3% refund of Duty.

That's how it was explained to me anyway.

I forgot to add ... there is also the Asian concept of a little willingness to "bargain" on God knows, there's heaps of room for flexibility on that on Naim products. The retailers margin is colossal.

FWIW,
It is cheaper to buy new Naims in the UK because of the luxury of the 17.5% deductable V.A.T, but if you factor in the cost of hauling them over to asia I think it would work out more or less (give and take a few quid) + the local duty. I would still suggest to buy locally and you have the peace of mind of back up and value added service plus if you are a frequent visitor some kind of concessions can be had in my experience Cool

And unlike in the UK where a dealer is at least one in every major city, where in asia it's more like one in every two are three countries. So consider the situations, Cheers!

ps. John I think we are in a similar in being geographically challenged.... Frown

I looked for an AV2 and Linn Classik recently.

The AV2 in Sgp was about sgd6100, the classik sgd $2200. The Linn and Naim agents are not the same.

That means that the AV2 was the same as the UK price including GST. The Linn price is a lot less than the UK price.

Perhaps the items came out of older stocks than the UK items ie the shops paid older prices than here.

I expected that the Singapore price would have been less, as taxes, inlcuding import duties, are very low here. The US is the only place I have found to have cheaper electronics. Sending gear to Sgp is also relatively cheap.

I am not saying you shouldn't buy from your dealer, specially as our dealer charges sgd 1000 on servicing items they didn't sell, just that I am surprised that Naim gear isn't cheaper here.

John - I guess I'll have the hit the calculator harder next time. Wink

cheers

Hi Gusi,
Just spotted your post re the price difference between Linn Classik and Naim AV2 in Singapore.
Interesting: The Uk price for AV2 is GBP2,200
The Linn Classik GBP1,995 ... only GBP300 difference.

Yet they arrive in Singapore and the Naim AV2 is selling for three times the price of the Linn. It doesn't say anything about the products but it does say a lot about the dealers. Shipping to Singapore is negligible and duty/tax is almost non-existant at 4%. I bet the Naim dealer is driving a better car than the Linn dealer.

Remember also, the mark up on both brands is remarkably high ... in fact bloody high. This is partly due to the high level of service either dealer is supposed to give the buyer and partly to make the "punters" feel they are getting a better product than Joe Bloogs who knows nothing about Hi Fi - but God damnn, he seems to enjoy music just as much as us without getting his knickers in a knot over trying to understand why .... poor fool.

(I'd do it too if I could get away with it ... there is no such thing as VFM in Hi Fi ..... only what the punters will pay)

I would have suggested you "bargain" harder but I don't think you'll get the price down by two thirds.

Never mind, you are not the first Singaporean to post complaints on this forum about the high prices of Naim gear in Singapore ... particularly the second hand items.

Good luck
