HDX - Powering down/Up

Provided you keep the power supply powered up and consequently the audio circuits - does it make a difference if you shut down the HDX from the front panel?

Or do you then have to wait 5 days for it to reach optimum again?

Also mine seems to run quite hot - assume this is normal.
