Paul Simon - Elvis Costello - very recent al***s ...

IMO these are jolly good - Paul Simon seems at last to have joined in this questionnable digital age with strange Eno noises on background to fine 'Surprise', and Costello with Allen Toussaint (particularly if you can obtain 'the extra tracks') is IMO his best since 1986/a really really good soul-blues boogie-disc - 'The River In Reverse'. Both seem to refer to 'Katrina' etc last year in often-'privileged' USA ...

I know Bono and he knows Ono, she knows Eno's phone goes thus:
'Brian's not home he's at the North Pole, but if you'd like to leave a weird noise....'- Eno Collaboration (HMHB)

I've just got the costello/toussaint cd. Sounds pretty good to me. I am a costello fan, but prefer the attractions stuff to the collaboration stuff usually, but this one sounds good, with some great tracks.Nice bluesy/southern-states kinda groove. A bit like a good jools holland album with better vocals & less cheese.
matt.

IMO after many 'initial' listenings to both albums on .mp3 prior to commercial-CD purchase on date of release:
a) Costello album (even though I don't like 'soul' theoretically) with blues etc Toussaint is Costello's best since 1986.
b) Simon album despite Eno background etc noises is a classic too.

I got the Costello on double vinyl earlier this week, and had a chance to listen to it on the drive to work this morning (via minidisc) - not a bad track to be heard and some are excellent - well worth buying
however, if you have not already got the Little Feat version of "on your way down", which is covered on the Costello LP, you really should.....

Must be honest guys - I am finding Suprize a little more difficult to get into - graceland is full of classic tracks - Rythem of the saints less so - however will keep trying
Costello is one of the great songwriters of modern days - up there with Paul Weller (well maybe) - where did you get the vinyl from??
HMV offer some vinyl but finding it difficult

i picked up the vinyl from HMV in Southampton - they had 3 copies, at £19.99 each
I would be surprised if Vivante/diverse or similar did not have stocks as well
Interesting about Weller as well - 1 of the Costello tracks really sounds, to me, like him (I'll leave it to you to decide which one)
