Fixing cabinet scratches
Posted by: Paul on 30 November 2003
I have a pair of black ash SBLs. Over the years they have collected a few small scratches on the lower corners due to impacts with vacuum cleaners, kiddy toys etc.. I also have a small scratch on the top from the cat's claws. The black ash really shows up scratches, even small ones, so I'd really like to know if there is a good repair out there. Does anyone have any recommendation for hiding these scratches ? Is there a stain available from NAIM ?

Try using a black permanant marker

Black shoe polish. Rub in then buff off the excess. Works a treat
red
ps..real shoe polish, not that liquid crap in a bottle

Redeye is right on. Takes 2 seconds. Well-OK-a half a minute.
Quickie,
Have you found that the marker(sharpie) leaves a shine? Just not matt enough??

The marker pen can leave a bit of a shine, espcially on metal cases......it all depend's on how shiney what ever it is you are covering,if you know what I mean

Thanks for all the advice, although marker pens and shoe polish do seem to be a low tech approach to a high tech (read "expensive") piece of equipment. I will give to shoe polish a try and let you know.
Now for my next question - how do I change the black ash to cherry ???

Two bits of advice.
1.Drink some fine wine and don't worry about it
2.Shall we wear our rose color glasses.

Just don't sell them.

I have a couple of scratches to my Naos from when my TT fell from the wall.
Not being black I just rubbed furniture wax into the wounds.
Regards,
Steve.
