Are you saying women like lots of knobs to play with but men only like one? Winker

Dear John,

Where does that leave the 'go faster knob' {speed regulator] on a wind-up gramophone?

I am fairly sure that was a male phenomenon, though the 2000 odd 78s I borrowed in the early eighties were once the property of two old maid sisters. I bet they owned a really fine electric HMV gramophone, and had only four controls - On-off, Volume, Speed, and Tone!

My wind-up thing had only speed (pitch!), though needle selection allowed some small control over volume and tone...

PS: My Naim set is more purist having only On-off, and Volume, I suppose! Actually this ignores the spurious benefot of balance for false stereo, and also the choice to revert to pure mono.

Maybe Naim is able to cater for the female as well, but without proclaiming the fact. Music is about the male and female, firstly contrasted and then combined. Usuallly the male part is first, but there are exceptions, such as the last movewmentr of Brahms' Third Symphony, which takes a noramal form and puts the lady on top [ie first]. No wonder it still is not the favourite for many, After a century and a quarter, more or less...

The bottom amp probably complains once a month, and ends up being really high maintenance. Also takes a while to warm up before getting into the groove... Winker

"What do you think; does this sound better..or this"
"They're both fine".
"Well, you must prefer it one way or the other".
"Okay, the first way sounded best"
"So what's wrong with the other way then?"
"Nothing, but you did ask"
"So the other other way sounds crap then!"
"No, I didn't say that. Look, it sounds good either way, but the first way sounded better".
"You're always like this, I don't know why I bloody bother!!" - slams door
Sigh.... Roll Eyes

Rasher,
I didn't know you'd been bugging Mrs JWM and me during the great CDS/CDS2 dilemma...
