akito

has arrived.

"the eagle has landed"

Today I installed the akito I got as replacement for the basikplus arm I had.
A couple of weeks ago I asked around (here) whether the difference is noticeable (the upgrade not a sidegrade and worth the hassle) and: it is.
Not day and night but not subtle, the music is more "together" it seems as if there was more control it seems to be more tuneful!
And more bass (voices having a lot more bandwith, Stan Getz sax reaching an octave deeper - listened to Getz/Astrud Gilberto extensively today, before the upgrade I liked them, now I love them!).
But:
Strange things happen:
Is the counterweight/tracking force adjustment thing at the akito vice versa to the basikplus?
Adjusting the tracking force was pain in the a** as turning the counterweight in direction to the base (adding weight) the number on the ring starts with 2.9 going to 2 -1-0.
Strange.
Thought the middle must be 1.5g - adjusted it this way.
Right?
Faulty?
Stupid (me)?
Regards
Guido

P.S.: As soon as I get hands on that digi cam again there will be another pic torture

For cosmetic reasons in keeping with the Ittok and later Ekos, Linn decided to design the counterweight to be installed on the tonearm end stub with the scale facing the back end of the turntable.

Once oriented in this way the values will make sense, however, it can be a pain in the arse to read them. You could try a using a small cosmetic mirror if you have trouble viewing the scale without disturbing the turntables location.

Hi Craig!

For a very short second this thought occured to me, dismissed as "to silly to be true".
I changed the direction of the counterweight, adjusted the tracking force - flashlight between the teeth to illuminate the scale at the darkest place of the arm - head pressed against the wall (wallshelf) - fingers wrinkled in absurd angles:
The Linn Developers must have laughed their a**es off thinking of customers adjusting tracking force.
Furthermore, influenced by this operation the tonearm changed it's overall balance, therefore armboard and platter out of level (seriously), have to setup the beasty again, tonight.
Thank You Linn!!
