Or a RR grill so that I can finally remake John Dodd's 1970's RR Meteor engined car.

Ahh Yes. Mr John Dodd. Owner of an auto gearbox rebuild company in Epsom, stuffed a 27 Litre RR V12 supercharged Merlin engine into a fibreglass-bodied special, went over to Germany & scared the Porsches and BMWs on the autobahns before the whole lot caught fire. Bloody fast in a straight line...
Sued by Rolls Royce for using one of their grilles.
Mad as a bucket of frogs but a hell of a character. died a few years ago if I remember correctly.

Apparently the car was geared for 260 mph, if anyone had a long enough straight, or big enough balls. They never managed to get the second stage of the supercharger engaged, on the road.

Ah yes, "the Beast"... ugly as sin if I recall but quite something nevertheless!
I rather like specials, especially some of the better Bentley and Jag ones that have been built over the years. Although perhaps not the special that the brother of a good friend had put together many years ago; it consisted of a salvaged Jag V12 squeezed into some old ford - an Anglia I think. Hugely fast in a straight line, but with original brakes and only mildly modded suspension, lethal anywhere else. It only briefly terrorised other road-users in Aberdeenshire - didn't last long!

Richard
So you like specials. Most of my life I have been dull and boring and drove the defined old mans car, the Jaguar for over 25 years.
For a small period of time, I ran a Triumph 2.5
with a Rover 3.5 V8 engine and gear box stuffed into it.
It was remarkably smooth and went like a bat out of hell.
I am now even more boring, I run a Honda Civic.
Regards
Mick
