Television, the drug of the nation...

Who wrote this again? I'm trying to find out on behalf of a mate who asked me to help, but thought I know the tune, I can't place the artist or the year...

Of course it's really an update of Gil Scott-Heron's classic.

Did you know Gil Soctt-Heron's dad Giles was the first black player to play football in Scotland when he played for Celtic in the 50s

If you like Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, check out the first Spearhead album. Its pretty fine, with a less hectoring tone. Michael Frante heads-up both bands. The first Spearhed album sounds like a mid-70s GSH album.

Yep, at least its not stil being used for a Sprite advert though.

Didn't the Beatnigs do a version before The Disposable Heroes ?

The Disposable Heroes were a good band - I look back at that time of the Heroes, Consolidated, MBM, MC 900ft Jesus as a mini "Golden Age" of indie music.

was first the Beatnigs and then The Disposable Heroes. T.V... has been recorded by both incarnations.

And also Spearhead and Michael Franti.

The DHoHH were his best work. The latest album is too much chat, not enough rap, and the musical backing weaker.

I just got hold of Franti/ Spearheads last offering Stay Human after hearing a track on Robbie Vincent the other morning going to work. Its FnA. Sounds great.
Kinda like Gil Scott Heron meets Soul to Soul via Duck Rock and the Last Poets.

I really like the radio show theme running through it too but I've always been a sucker for that kind of thing.

This is the sort of music I'd like to hear blaring out from a ghetto blaster or record shop in a heatwave whilst in the Bronx or somewhere.

Play it on a hot sunny day.

It's Bitchin'
