Harold Budd 'Lovely Thunder' editions

Posted by: JamieL on 12 March 2009

Well I guess this is a question for HaroldBudd.

I would like to get 'Lovely Thunder' (1986) but I notice that most track listings for it show 6 tracks 'Valse Pour Le Fin Du Temps' being omitted. I know a lot of sellers just copy the Amazon listing, and if they have made a mistake then it is repeated.

So my question is, does only the original EG/Opal release have all 7 tracks? What is the catalogue number of this release? Do later editions also have all the tracks?

I do like 'Valse Pour Le Fin Du Temps' and must decide if it is worth paying an extra £10 for. I have a MP3 rip of the album, which is no use what-so-ever to listen to such rich music with, but does remind me of the tracks.

Hi JamieL

Yes my original EG/Opal has all 7 tracks, the catalogue number is EEG CD 46, this should be the one that is out there the most. My vinyl also has all tracks but is packed away as I am moving to Germany soon, but I can check for you if you like, I think I know which box it is in. Smile Amazon track listings can be a bit shady sometimes so it is good to check the catalogue # of what you are getting, if they list it. I checked the All Saints site catalogue and it looks like only 4 others have been re-issued, not Lovely Thunder, but other great ones. Hope that helps.

Thanks J

I have ordered one from Ebay (buy now) with all seven tracks, but I am dubious that the seller is reliable, so it may be cancelled, and if so I will track down the EEG CD 46 release.

No need to look at the vinyl, I only listen on CD, my rega2 does not quite compare with a CD5x.

The original vinyl LP only has six tracks, Valse pour le fin du temps being the omitted track.
So, I guess this track was added when the LP came out on CD to make up an otherwise short album.

Most of the CD releases have only 6 tracks, the 7 track version being the exception.
