One of those Vs questions

Posted by: garyi on 07 February 2003

Now its been a while, I feel an upgrade thang coming on.

It would seem through close observation that I am now playing mostly records and would be looking to upgrade in this area.

Cheaply.

So I was thinking of a stageline(?) or an out side of the preamp phono stage.

I understand this would need to be powered via a *cap.

So would a 102 & 180 with stageline-cap sound better than a 102/180/Cap with internal boards?

Bearing in mind I can't afford another cap at the moment.

Any thoughts welcome.

I don't think you should bother with just a Stageline.

Work out where you want to end up and take a step there.

Suggest you decide whether you prefer the Linn or Naim approach to a maxed out LP12 and head in that general direction.

Assuming you have a Valhalla I found more improvements were to be had from TT power supply than phono stage. Check out a Lingo/Armageddon. I prefer the Naim approach btw.
