B&W Signature 805 and B&W subwoofer

My Naim system ( 2 Nap 135, Nac 52, CDX, XPS and Super Cap ) Has anyone got any experience with Naim and B&W Signature 805? I like deep bass, but can this "little" speaker do it or is it necessary with a subwoofer?

In your system the N805 sig will give you plenty of punch and drive in the bass such that you may not notice any deficiencies in very low bass. Subjectively it sounds like it goes down to 35-40 Hz though I'm sure its more like about 50 Hz.

Deep bass is a mixed blessing - nice to have but tough to control (unless in a big room). If you've never had it you may not miss it, but once you've had it you don't want to go back.

805 sigs are a freakish speaker - they project so well and sound so big from such a small package. The nay-sayers will doubtless tell you they are slow and too soft but I've heard different - they do exactly what the amps tell to do.

Do you need a sub? Entirely up to your personal tastes - I've heard the Nautilus 800 sub and it seems to do the job. Your call after home dem.

I've tried the 805 sigs a couple of times, and still they do sound jaw droppingly good in the low ends for a fairly small speaker. Everything else sounds magnificent as well, the mids, highs, details, openness. I think it's a faboulous speaker. Fairly easy to drive (they certainly appreciate more juice, but they can still sound ok with little), a NAIT5 is able to handle them, but after a while will leave you heading down the path of upgrading. Your 135's should drive them with ease, and make them sing like crazy! The more you put in, the more comes out!

Unfortunatly I can't comment on the 805 sigs and a subwoofer, since I simply haven't tried nor heard. Although I don't think it's necessary, people with larger rooms may be more than happy using a sub to head to the lower regions of the music.

FE,

I think it depends on what you are used to. I tried the 805 sigs. when i had isobariks and to be perfectly honest, could not live with the lack of bottom end. This was driving them with firstly 2 then 4 x 135s. For me they are the best B&W speaker in the 800 series as far as speed and togetherness across the frequency band (I tried 802s at the same time), but I never had the chance to try them with a sub bass unit. Provided you can get one to integrate well you will possible be onto a winner.
