Scratched CDI assy

Posted by: Ian.B on 29 January 2001

I managed to scratch the metal tray sub-assy on my CDI the other day. Can the stratch be 'removed' using matt black touch-up paint or is some special non-reflective coating used?

The stratch is approx 3mm long right on the edge (close to the platter).

Q - Does it matter? Will it affect playing CDs?

I haven't used the m/c since, just in case!

Can anyone help?

Thanks
Ian

I think it's ok to mention Linn!

The scratch I was referring to was inside where the cd sits not on the outside case.

A dealer advised using Humbrol matt black model paint just to 'remove' the scratch.

From what I recall on the old forum, the tray you have scratched is coated with a special paint which does something special to the CD laser light tat gets bounced off the disc.

Call Naim service dept, I don't think it's a marker pen job I'm afraid.

but I followed the dealer's advice and used some matt black model paint to 'remove' the scratch.

The repair is almost invisible and you certainly wouldn't notice it if you didn't know it was there etc.

Thanks anyway - next time I know who to listen too.
