Not sure what I'm doing wrong with the pictures - I though you would see them in the message.

You need to press the Image button (2nd from Right) and put the URL in the box.

Isn't it the same as the remote application?
Posted on: 19 August 2009 by stammerman
Hi Robert!
Maybe I'm being a bit thick but are you referring to the Uniti remote control? The basic Remote Control that comes with the Uniti is a great improvement over the remotes that I had with my old CD5 and Nait 5 but for me who is sitting three metres away from the Uniti, I can't read the display panel for selecting tracks etc. This is why I'm checking out alternatives.
Cheers,
Martin

Nope.... Not at all.
Dont bother with the plugplayer app. It sucks.
But do use Foobar as your upnp renderer then use a free Foobar http control app on your iPhone/Touch, controlling a computer anywhere on the network.
You can get the app on hydrogen audio.
Unless of course you are using a Mac.... then best of luck. David Dever would be a good source of information there.

Thanks for the advice - I'll check it out

Sorry for if I'm being dense here ... but isn't the UPnP renderer the bit that actually "plays" the music (i.e. converts it to a digital signal to send to a DAC)? If so, how is using FooBar as the UPnP renderer going to help control a NaimUnity?
Just a question ...

After much playing I have established there is a number of elements. The server, i.e. twonky, or Allegro.
Then there is the player or 'renderer'
And also you can have a control point such as plug player.
I have to say so far I don't appear to have got any of them all working together. I thought I was there with cidero but that failed to play music, doh!

Patrick, you are a little bit of a connoisseur when it comes to streaming devices and controls
I have plugplayer and it really isn't that bad at all, but do admit it is not quite the same as the itunes remote on the iphone, which for me is the benchmark.
For the money (assuming you own an itouch/phone) it's worth a go as a remote for the Uniti.

Further further investigation by myself seems to conclude that the way plug player works is basically the way UPNP allows a control point to work. i.e. you have to build a playlist first.
That in mind I have been trying out Linns Kirsity software on the laptop and do you know what? It works! Haha what a funny world.

I will check over the weekend - but I have never used it with playlists. Though I cannot confirm this with the Uniti.
One nice with it is that you can stream to the iphone - which I use when plugged into my alarm clock!

I find if you look at plug player wrong it crashes.

That was my experience as well. When it did work it was slow as hell.
