archos 420 /macbook
Posted by: steve61 on 31 January 2010
Recently got a Macbook , but am unable to configure the Archos with the mac.Does anybody use this combination, if so could they please advise me how.
If the Archos proves to be a no goer, any recommendations for a new device, the Apple players imo don't offer the freedom of use as the Archos, has anybody any experience with the Cowans?
Thanks,
Steve.

Are you hooking up to a tv?

'Apple thing' not sure what you are referring to.
I just want to rip my cd's via the Macbook now I no longer have a pc. I used CDX as a ripper when I had the pc but their doe not seem to be a similar ripper for the mac.

Steve, I am not entirely sure what you are asking but I hope this may help:
1. I believe your Archos plays only mp3, WMA or WAV files, so you must not rip in Apple formats such as AAC, AIFF, ALAC.
2. I don't think i-Tunes will sync with the Archos. However, your Mac should recognise the Archos as an external drive so you can drag and drop ripped tracks in to your Archos folders. (I am not sure if Songbird has a sync plug-in for the Archos).
3. MAX or XLD may be a better route to ripping your music as I know from my old Archos 605 that it does not like the way i-Tunes organises music and album art.
4 Always remember to eject the Archos before disconnecting the USB connection - the Archos library can get screwed pretty easily.
