Naim Owners Club - 1000 Al***s - What's the best Led Zep elpee
Posted by: Guido Fawkes on 03 February 2008
I've no idea on this one - I like most of their first four albums and Physical Graffiti, but couldn't say which was the best - I'd probably choose III.
Which one would you choose?

Depends what mood I'm in. More often than not it would be III, but quite often I would opt for Houses of the Holy.

Physical Graffiti or I through the Out Door for me.

III? Really? I like Tangerine as well, but I'm not so keen on most of the rest of the album. My favourite is probably Physical Graffiti though I like IV a lot as well.

All about Houses of the Holy. So many memories of hot summer, drink and girls with tan lines. What more can I say - I just put on Dancing Days and I am brought right back to a pretty nice time of life.
Song Remains the Same/Rain Song/Over The Hills is the best three song knockout delivery of all time. No Quarter is, to me, THE moment for Led Zeppelin as a band, meaning that everyone is at the peak. Seeing and hearing John Paul Jones deliver the bass line with his feet and the fender rhodes melody with his hands, with a dash of mellotron, is when I first saw past the page/plant show, looked beyond my bonzo obsession, and realized the freakin' amazing GROUP this was/is. And, what, the Ocean, isn't that the essence of Zep, funky loose rocking great fun. So for me, it is definitely Houses of the Holy. I think I'll go put it on....

I'm with Steve here, Physical Graffiti is the standout musically, and you get 4 sides of it!

Probably IV - if it had Kashmir and No Quarter on it as well it would probably be the greatest rock album ever made.

The best album has to be Led Zeppelin, without the impact that album had when released all the others might not have happened.
The drum world was amazed at the bass drum triplets during Good Times Bad Times.
The shear emotion of the blues in, Babe I'm gonna leave you/You Shook Me/I can't quit you baby.
The power of Dazed and Confused/Communication Breakdown/How many more times/Your time is gonna come.
And in the middle of all this pops up Black Mountain Side

I'm thinking of buying some Led Zep on vinyl - a gaping hole in my 70's rock collection.
Which pressings would you guys recommend?
Original UK, Japanese, or 180gm reissues?
I'm looking forward to the new release coming out in March.

mat
