A decent AV Processor for Blu-Ray

Does anybody have a recommended AV processor for use with Blu-ray (Pioneer LX08 to tide me over) that could feed into a Naim system with 52/135s (FL/FR); a pair of 250s Cent/Sides) and an N-sub (LFE)?

The AV2 is no longer a sensible option and Naim are maintaining silence on their future, so i'm only thinking of spending £1k max to tide me over until the market sorts itself out.

Is the Audio-Lab 8000AP any good?

Cheers

Don

Audiolab looks good mate. However have a look at the Rotel one looks a really good piece of kit.

here is a link to the product no idea on pricing http://www.rotel.com/UK/Produc...ctDetails.htm?id=474

also remember most blu ray players do the internal decoding and you can feed that to the multi channel inputs on the back of the Av2.

You can pick an AV2 for silly money and with a decoding Bluray, you'd have a winner.

I believe the audiolab is PCM decoding only, don't know how much an issue that is.

As I understand, current Rotel product range has some issues with HDMI, according to reps and retailers I trust–independent confirmation required.

The original version of the audiolab did not decode the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio codecs of Bluray so you have to output LPCM from your bluray player. Other than that I have heard the 8000AP on a couple of occasions and been suitably impressed.

In theory, LPCM should be just as good as the compressed codecs, but in practice it does n't always seem to be the case. I don't understand how this can be the case since the D-A conversion is always happening in the processor, and TrueHD/DTS-HD both uncompress to the same LPCM stream before conversion, but it's something we've observed in various tests with various AV receivers.

If anyone knows whether the audiolab's been updated to include DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD please pipe up. I can't see anything on their website to say they have done so though. Frown

Frank

i didn't even know that Audiolab were still going very few Scottish dealers have there kit. I have no idea how there sales are going and would see buy there product as highly risky.
