Looking for Friends?

Posted by: wellyspyder on 22 August 2005

Here is a question to ponder. Is the forum a great place to meet new people? Have you or know of someone who have found great friends through this site or site like this?

I personally thought it is a place where you have to be pretty desperate to seek friends. Don't hurl abuse yet, there is nothing wrong with it if you are careful. Just the fact that there are so many funny characters which could be lurking in sites like these. Annonymity can be abused eh, esp looking for people with expensive gear. Just thinking out loud! Welly

I've been a Naim user since 1978 and a member of this forum for about three years. I didn't come here "looking for friends" but I have met two forum members, Dave Bell, who turned out to be the pharmacist at the end of my street, and Adrian the Expat, who has a great system and a fabulous music collection.

Both are great guys, I've learned from them and I'm very pleased to have made their acquaintance. I'm sure if I went to the US,UK, NZ, France or Germany I could easily arrange to meet other members and I may well do that one day.

This is the most civilised, literate internet forum I've encountered by a wide margin. There are disparate views here, but not many weirdos I feel.

Without the forum I'd still be the same Naim nut I always was, but it's always interesting to learn what others with similar leanings are up to.

You'd be welcome at mine anytime, bazz, even though we differ on the merits - or otherwise - of the 250.2! Big Grin

Hi,
I've been here about 2 years, and via here and the hifi shop i use (guess where???) i have met a good many like minded folk: NB?PB, JonR, David C, Roger Poll, Roger40, spartacus (ernie), Nigel Rav, Carl & Tim, and a couple that cannot be named but contribute over at 'the other place'.

the 'massive' evenings usually go down really well, and cost me a fortune either in hardware or CD's!

I've met a few from round here (and the other place) all have been friendly and I've spent many enjoyable evenings listening to music and chatting about past gigs and classic albums over a few beers.

I actually met someone from my local pub here. We'd been drinking in the same pub for years, knew many of the same people but not each other. We have struck up a very firm friendship meeting regularly for BEER, concerts and comedy shows.

I've also got in touch with an old school buddy who posts here...

I made friends with Fritz.

I wants to move in with him but he says no.

Thanks for all the replies. Goes to show the personalities who congregate here are a cut above those elsewhere. Good to have a different avenue to meet or regain contact with lost friends. Already a step ahead when there is a common interest Smile.

I've met loads of great people through the forum, but most of them like Dev B, Tim O, Matthew Robinson, Jawed, Joel B, Vuk, Andy Sheen, John C, Rico and Tony Lonorgan were user of the forum 5 or more years ago.
