LP12 + Armageddon + Aro + ???

Posted by: Christopher on 02 May 2003

Can anybody offer advice as to a good cartridge for the Aro... something lively rather than smooth is what I'm after, with tight & solid bass.

Lira has been suggested, nevre heard one myself so ???!

Any input greatly appreciated...

Dynavector 17D2 does it for me.

I have same set-up and changed my Lyra lydian for a Kontrapunkt B.I prefer the latters more coherant sound and less driven treble, though not quite as detailed. The Lydian did do bass well and treble was definately lively. It was the middle bit that was left wanting in my opinion.I expect more expensive Lyras will sort this.

Christopher,

Contact Chris K at NANA. He seems to have found a cart that he loves for the ARO..

The Lyras in an Aro are two steps in the same direction of not-all-that-impactful bass, I believe.

Sounds like you badly need a Clearaudio, which WHOMPS the equivalent Lyra on bass, or an EMT cartridge (or their Tubaphon or Roksan Shiraz derivatives).

Not so sure about that, I tried a Clearudio virtuoso wood, mm model and while it made better sounds and "hifithings" than my old Lk18 I can't say it made more music. The Lk18 made the music more "together sounding".

As I'm also looking for a new cartridge I'm curious if someone has tried the "music-maker" from The Cartridge Man in a Naim Aro.I would like to stay with mm cartridges if possible.

Bjorne,

the Clearaudio MCs are a different kettle of fish.
