Equipment supports/furniture
Posted by: MichaelC on 13 October 2003
I am under orders - new furniture for the living room to include a Fraim for the Naim bits "n" pieces and cabinets for the AV bits "n" bobs, records and cds.
The Fraim is straight forward.
Can anyone recommend decent cabinets for the remainder - I need to site the TV, DVD, amp, digibox and vcr. I like the look of the Arca furniture range but doea anyone else have alternative suggestions.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
Is Arca a new brand? Haven't heard of it over here in the states. Their site is under construction at http://www.arcafurniture.net/.
I see they have arcam in their arca. ar ar ar.
The TV stand that naim maik is lovely and would match the fraim. But it is also quite dear. It has space for four units, but not a lot of height. It is open on the back though while the arcas look quite tight and closed in. Concealed is all good and well but yer bits gotsta breath. How big is the Tele?

I didn't realise Naim made a TV stand - no mention of it on their website. The tele is a Loewe Aconda, 32" screen and is quite bulky.
Do you know the depths between the individual supports?
Thanks
Mike

I believe Arca have been around in the UK for a couple of years - the furniture is built to a high standard with good quality veneers. They are primarily distributed amongst the specialist detailers, I guess more of the AV ilk. Off the top of my head, the pricing is reasonable - say £450-470 for a smaller, single width unit and £750-£770 for a larger, double width unit.

Mike,
I think the spacing is the same as the standard shelf fraim, about 4 inches, but the four glass isolation shelves can be individually removed for a bit of extra headroom if your AV amp is hulky (and they always are).
Curious that Naim don't have a picture of it on their site. It was on the US price list. Perhaps they had supplier problems with the smoked glass doors and had to discontinue it.

Thanks for that - it does look good and best of all Laura agrees to. Time to investigate in more detail.

At the Bristol show i asked one of the Naim reps - he said they were not building an av Fraim due to costs (there was one on display at the show which looked the doggies doo-dahs)- perhaps Richard or one of the other administrators could assist in clarifying this?

A Hutter AV rack with a HiFi Base (worth it!) and two shelves in the 500mm configuration (so not so deep) will put you back just over £600. It's a fine rack.

Frank.

I have to say that myself and SWMBO don't like the look of Hutter at all. You can tell it's quality, but it looks awful (IMHO).

I got a Quadraspire double width cabinet in light oak with smoked glass doors, which slide in to the sides if required. 3 equipment levels (base, 2 adjustable shelves) plus the top. I believe its code is something like QK AV. It's very solid and well-built, but quite expensive. I got an ex-dem one for ~£600 but I believe the full price is around £900. Worth a look though.
