HM The Queen at 80!

Dear Friends,

I am sure that everyone here will have been delighted to see our head of state on such fine form during her official birthday celebrations!

In a changeable world she has shown a steadfastnes, devotion to duty, patience, and judgement which put her in another class to any of her elected governements. She stands head and shoulders above them.

She has something special, and in my view has more integrity and personal quality than any other person in public life today.

Long may she reign over us...

Three cheers, and "Long Live The Queen."

Frederik

She has lead her life in a way no-one ever could. My Gran has lived lived a life infinately more demanding, yet my Gran has managed to instill, in the face of much more than she has had to contend with, an understanding of richness, that she has instilled into Her future generations, that HRH could never muster.

Regards

What a load of drivel

As I have said on other such threads, despite being a republican, I must concede that her majesty has done a very good job and is a remarkable lady. It is shame that the same cannot be said of all the rest of her family.

I for one wish her well on her official birthday.

I think it was Paul MvCartney who sung

Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she changes from day to day

I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeah
Someday I'm going to make her mine

Johnny Rotten sung another song about the Queen

I though she was very good on TV in the eighties

Good news for all chinless inbred retards – life expectancy is still 80+. Looks like it will be a few more generations before the effects kick in. Keep counting those fingers……

Well there we go. I find myself in a minority again. President Blair or President Thatcher, anyone? Nuff said, I think. Fredrik

Not even in jest should we contemplate such things ....

Dear Fredrik,

This is indeed a compelling argument. However, I fail to see how President Blair could be any more odious than 'President in all but name' Blair as we have currently.

However, I'd rather not take this thread any further from it's rather nice start of paying tribute to a remarkable lady - perhaps debate on the pros and cons of monarchy and its alternatives might be better on another thread.

For whatever reason, we are all born into a situation beyond our control in order to make the best job we can of who we are. That's what life is about and no-one suggested it was easy, and we all have challenges that are particular to us that others may not appreciate as being as important as their own. This isn't about the politics of the Monachy, it's about the Queen reaching 80.
Her world is not our world, and the divide between us in the 21st century is widening. She has her problems and probably realises that the Monachy is nearing its demise, so it isn't fair to belittle her life and challenges. We should appreciate and respect everyone whoever they are, regardless of politics, race, class or anything else. As a fellow human being though, and nothing else. I'm not going to wave a flag.

Dear Rasher,

Thanks for that. It just about sums up the truth of it I would think. I am the most unlikely patriot, but I cannot help feeling respect for the Queen, and somehow a distant feeling of affection for someone who has very real human qualities, including getting certain things wrong. Only Princess Anne shows much sign of being particualarly normal amongst the next generation for example, but the position cannot actually have been easy, and my feelings for Prince Charles are indeed somewhat partially sympathetic... I am not sure he would comand widespread respect and support when he ascends the Throne, which is surely the end of the monarchy in its current form based on the splendors of Empire, and not much modified since ...

IMO she had done well at times/should have officially retired at 60 max.

IMO she should have spoken up about crap politics/twat media/CD.

IM estimation she is now about 134 as she has 2 birthdates annually.

I do realize she makes money for herself/the sycophantic media-royal hangers-on, but wish she rode a cycle not on the pavement.

It now seems as if her Greek husband should have said more about the pratting in this world.

Probably Augustus might have been the last effective leader.

IMO HM has never put a foot wrong, she is an enormous credit to the nation. Why retire at 60 when she already works happily and as effectively as any 60 year old in the country. Hers is a job for life.

It is not her job to do this, for good reasons

I believe 160 would be the figure based on your 'thinking'.

Are you english?

Prince Philip is related to (what was)the Greek royal family but does not have a drop of Greek blood. Lucky for you he does not say more about the 'pratting' in this world.

What Rasher said.

Quite. One of her strengths, in my view is that she has remained (with the exception of the succession of Macmillan) above politics. Contrast this with Charles's constant pronouncing and I know which I prefer (and why the monarchy will be in serious trouble after her). She has a degree of dignity which, frankly, is refreshing today.

Sounds about right to me.
quote:
On one occasion the P.M. and The Queen wore similar dresses as a public occasion and Downing Street approached Buckingham Palace to see if such a potential embarrassment could be avoided in the future. The reply was cool: "Do not worry. The Queen does not notice what other people are wearing".

Can't find the source of this but I reckon it is true.
