I may provoke reaction/ridicule here, but there are a pair of Linn Kabers on eBay right now, currently at £250. I have used them for years and rate them.

I was never truly happy with the bass, it seemed a bit 'boomy' and not quite the clarity in the mid band... may be I was just a bit tired of them? Budget is around £900

Good news ref the cheque!

For that price you can get a fairly recent set of SBLs; I do not own a pair but they are one obvious choice in any Naim system.

SBL's would not be the ideal choice with your amps and front end, they require a bit more unfortunately. Not second hand anyway when you would have little opportunity to try them in your set up.

For £900 you could strech to a pair of SBL's as already suggested however I also have to question whether the 92/90 would be up to the job of powering the SBL's.

I would also suggest that the 92/90 was probably the reason why you were never truely happy with the Intro 2's.

For £900 I would agree with Nuno that the Epos M12's or 15's would be a good match for the rest of your system. Another good speaker is the Sonus Faber Concertino's, they work well with Naim gear.

There is also the Neat Critique/Neat Critique 2's which are also good speakers for the money. I know Alexgerrard uses a pair of the Critique 2's and is very happy with them.

Have been using Naim gear for the last five years and have decided to upgrade the speakers--Monitor14's (floorstanding, sealed)--driven by CDS/XPS/32.5/Hi-Cap/250. I'm demoing a pair of SBL's (set up by dealer in my house) and a pair of Neat Elites (dual ported towers).

My dificulty is this: No matter what we tried, we couldn't get a good, warm, upper base response from the SBL's, especially at lower listing volumes. The Elites do upper base very well, from low volume to performance level volumes. The SBL's had plenty of punch, but little sustaining tonality.

On the other hand, the SBL's seem to have a much more dramatic 'presence' and timing. THe Elites are very good in the upper ranges, just not as good as the SBL's.

Is this a trade off I will need to choose from? Can the SBL's be tweeked? I'm anticipating upgrading to a 52/supercap within the year. Will this help rectify the SBL's base?

I don't agree with that combination of SBL's with a 92/90 set up, the SBL's require a minimum of 72/140.

They come into their own with a 72/hicap/250 or better.

92/90 speakers options
1)Epos 11 or M12
2)Intro's
3)Royd Abbots

Don't overlook Dynaudio Contour 1.1's. Very
open top end and with fairly close placement
to the wall gives excellent bass punch and extention.
Does not have the slightly agressive Epos tweeter.

I use the Monitor Audio Silver S 8 floorstander with my Naim 112/150 & CD 5 They pack plenty of bass punch and have a detailed mid and sweet top end. They are well witin your budget at £799
