Intro II as rear speakers??

Posted by: Martin C on 20 June 2001

I trade-in my Intro II for SBL few months ago, now I have active system, even with lesser system, it sounds great. The upgrade bug bites again, I am at the cross-road whether to further upgrade on existing system, to CDX/82/2x180 or 250
(home trial 82 at the moment, it sounds great)

CD3.5+Hi cap/92R+flat cap/90X2/snaxo+flat cap/SBL

or

go AV route with existing system, to get AV2/AP150/Tosh SE-900 DVDA/V player or Meridian 596/IntroII as rear/REL sub-woofer/centre speaker ??

2nd option allow me to have a good AV system, as well as set up for DVDA, that's why i thought about Intro II as rear, If it's mainly for movie, dipole speaker would be better of course. understand that even the speakers set up would be different for movie and multi-channel DVD-A. Any suggestion welcome, on other surround speakers.

Hopefully AV2 & AP150 will be available in Aug2001 as Paul mentioned, by any chance, there are new surround & centre speakers to go with them? I think a lot of us are waiting.

Cheers

You have to decide what is important to you. If it helps, my own experience has been that I too wanted to get a good AV setup to complement the stereo but everytime I listened to upgraded components for the hifi I always plumped for that instead. I lived with a Kenwood then Yamaha processor and a mish mash of speakers for a long time and don't regret it.

It is only recently I have bitten the bullet and upgraded the AV. I now complement my normal CDX/82/Hi/250/SBL system with a Tag Mclaren processor/180 biamping centre/140 rears + REL. On Paul Stephenson's advice I purchased a ProAC Response centre to complement the SBLs (fantastic AV speakers by the way) but I still run the rears via 15yr old Mission 707s.

It sounds absolutely spiffing. I was thinking about replacing the Missions with Credos (which sounded pretty good in audition) but I'm not sure yet. In theory I should also think about balancing the amplification but I want an XPS (and maybe supercap) more!

Hope this helps.
