Crikey, only 48 years old. Same as moi. Makes you think eh? No guarantees any of us will be here tomorrow. Very sad.

A great loss to anybody who valued intelligent humour that made a blindingly funny point of pulling down the pompus and vain.
So sad, I will miss seeing her on tv.

We don't get many stars coming from Erith. Sadly missed.

Very sad. A great loss to entertainment. As Erik says, pulls you up short doesn't it?

Never heard of her, but it's sad that she died so young.

As another Smith from Erith, and a long-time fan, I am exceptionally saddened by this news.
I really hope they re-run some of her work, it is made all the greater for discovering she had been suffering with this cancer for three years without ever publicising the fact. To laugh in the face of such adversity is a true quality, but to spend your time making others laugh is the very definition of selflessness. I wish I was that brave.
It is well worth listening to Jeremy Hardy's moving tribute recording via the BBC website.

Just listened to it - excellent tribute. We've lost another considerable talent from the airwaves - and as you said: a brave person who made us laugh (making people laugh is one of the greatest things anybody can do).

A longer tribute will be broadcast in due course. Last night's quick lash up was excellent.
Cheers

Just heard it this lunchtime. A very funny lady.
An episode featuring Linda of "Have I Got News For You" and "Room 101" will be shown on Friday evening.

I've been a big fan of hers since she played Holly in Red Dwarf.
The News Quiz tribute to her was a fine reminder and a full tribute is apparently being prepared.
My favourite line was.....
Linda - "I can't see Charles and Camilla without thinking of Rod Hull and Emu"
Other contestant - "Which one's which?"
Linda - "Well the one that looks like Rod Hull is Rod Hull and the one that looks like Emu is Emu, obviously"
Very funny woman.

Linda Smith was a brilliantly witty woman who never failed to make me laugh, a very sad loss at such an early age.
Shayman - The female Holly in Red Dwarf was played by Hattie Hayridge.
