iPod questions

Have an ipod that is normally sync'd with my PC. Want to lend it to my son but there are some tunes that I need to remove first. How do I delete single tunes from an ipod? (If I try to turn off syncing then itunes insists on deleting everything).
Hooked the ipod up to itunes on my daughter's PC, declined the offer to sync with it, couldn't figure how to load selected tunes from it to my iPod. How do I do this?
Willy.

I'm pretty sure the solution is to 'enable hard dics use' and the ipod and then delete/select tunes from the ipod as if files on an external hard drive.
Somebody with a far sweeter and more technical explnanation will be along shortly I suspect....

Bruce,
"enable hard disk use" was enabled, however "manage music manually" wasn't. Ticked that box and I'm all sorted. Cheers.

Pretty sure I had a similar problem with my partners pod. If you set up a separate library for your son in I tunes then drag what you want over to this. Then sync the pod with this library this should remove what's not required...I think.

theres no doubt that the ipod is a fantastic bit of kit and we have 3 in the household BUT for the reasons above it still manages to piss me off big time. apple are a typical big company that just gets greedier and greedier.

Blame the music industry and not Apple for the Digital Rights Management mess...Steve Jobs keeps pressing them to opne up but they won't....you
read it here...Bear in mind also that many of the companies want to sell individual songs (the popular ones, surprise surprise) for more than the 99c that Apple currently charges.
Could Apple push the industry harder? Probably - but the industry moguls are the short sighted ones IMO.

Hi this not to complicated. In the library on your PC untick items you want to remove from the ipod prior to your son using. Conect ipod , let it sync , unticked items will be removed. Long term solution if you loan it out on a regular basis is create a playlist as per comment above.

Go to iTunes help:
Removing items from iPod
You can remove individual songs, audiobooks, and videos from your iPod. Removing an item from your iPod does not delete it from your iTunes library.
To remove items from an iPod other than an iPod shuffle, first make sure that iTunes is set up to manually manage items.
Adding songs to iPod manually ►
To remove songs from your iPod:
Connect your iPod to your computer.
When the iPod icon appears in iTunes, select it.
If the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod is closed, click it so that you can see the iPod contents.
Select the item you want to delete and press the Delete key.
