Dean Friedman is a Half Man, Half Biscuit Fan

It seems I'm not only one who thinks Nigel Blackwell is the greatest songwriter in living memory - you can thank your lucky stars that he has another fan, namely the legendary Dean Friedman - we know a song about him (click here). The full article about Dean and HMHB is here on Dean's official site no less.

Interestingly Nigel Blackwell says of himself:

I'm not aspiring to great things, I'm very easily pleased, I'm not ambitious musically. I feel as if I've achieved my ambition by just releasing an LP, existing as a band and by people hearing the band. We've got quite a bit of respect, we're not people's favourite band because we're not deadly serious, we're people's third favourite. I think that's how we are perceived, and that's great. I couldn't honestly write anything serious with any conviction, because I would feel ridiculous trying to write a song that even bordered on anything like complaining. I just put all my humour into my songs; I'm not a barrel of laughs to live with at all. I'm very quiet, I just sit and read a lot. I think what people can't grasp is that you can be a musician, write lyrics and just be a normal run of the mill guy, they can't have that, there's always got to be an angle.

So do great artists have to be loud and egocentic? Do they have to appear in stadia and write rock anthems? Or can they be just nice guys who come from the Wirral and would sonner see Tranmere Rovers play than appear on the Tube? And other than the fact he wouldn't have shown up, why didn't Nigel get the life time achievement award at the Brits?

Well Dean went up in my estimation when I read he was a fan.
