One of lifes little coincidences that his testimony isn't there any more?

I'm amazed nobody has commented to any extent on Galloways performance the other day in Washington. Irrespective of ones views of him and his ideas, I personally think he did brilliantly, and fuck any hypocrytical emmbarrasment on any others part.

Fritz Von I'd like to see 'ANY' other British politician hold their own like that (not too mention Prattboy Silk), I have the feeling everybody wishes he's go away as if it didn't happen. RESPECT² Big Grin

Fritz

It was a brilliant performance. I am in no way a George Galloway fan but to see him turn defense into attack during his appearance on Capital Hill was a thing of beauty.

The coverage on BBC World News was fabulous and it was clear that the US based BBC correspondent was totally in awe of his display and contrasted it to the usual cowering, almost apologetic performances from the usual sub committee "victims."

As a Scot, I took great delight in emailing the link to the video clips on the BBC web site to a number of my American colleagues.

I had to watch tonight's Have I Got News For You to discover this but it turns out that one aspect of Galloway's tirade conspicuous by its absence from the US media coverage was his response to the question regarding how many times he had actually met Saddam. His response was that he'd met the dictator the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld, the difference being that the purpose of Rumsfeld's meeting had been to sell weapons! Eek

I despise the man but thought his performance was superb. Avoided every question and focused the argument on the questioner.

Total politician !

Probably in the pockets of Saddam and Gaddafi, but two virtuoso performances within the past fortnight: his acceptance speech as the newly elected MP for Bethnal Green was the highlight of an amazingly insipid night of election coverage and his Senate performance was extraordinary. Do you suppose those were Cuban cigars he was smoking?

I think he's quite a loathsome character but thought he was superb this week.

"I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him. The difference is that Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns."

"I was an opponent of Saddam Hussein when British and American governments and businessmen were selling him guns and gas."

"You have nothing on me, Senator, except my name on lists of names from Iraq, many of which have been drawn up after the installation of your puppet government in Iraq."

That first quote in particular I find quite superb.

Or, translated into Bill-speak, "I'm not guilty, and you can't prove I am."

It remains to be seen what will be attempted to hang around George's neck, Alisdaire away with Wills on the wugger bash, looked sprightly at Cardiff toady though, and Tony thinking about his fiscal future in the real world so doesn't want to rock any boats, innit.

Fritz, do you have the list of Protestant owned businesses at hand too, or perhaps Jehovahs Witsesses owned businesses - or a list of rooster worshippers who are business owners??

Your irony is lost on me I'm afraid.

That's true. Unfortunately, nobody bothered to tell that to the anti-semitic mob that regularly used to picket the Manchester branch of M&S, with the police apparently powerless to stop them...

So with Galloway and now Karzai going on the offensive where will it all end? Will we have more leaders talking the talk. One imagines it is all for domestic consumption anyway. As has been noted news papers in the States know how to apply the edit pencil.

I'm in the States, and thought what I heard of Galloway's presentation (caught a bit of it on the Canadian news program on the radio) and the very, very limited coverage in the corporate newspapters was absolutely brilliant. Since then I've been able to locate his formal statement.

His was simply the most honest explication of the murderous nature of the sanctions policy, and the outright criminality of the latest invasion/occupation, ever delivered in the halls of the US Congress.

He kicked ass. More power to him.

Jim

There is dark side to him too. He chooses to supress the information.

Jim,
you might find this interesting, especially Page 2:

To reply to Paul Hutchings' original question:

If an official US Senate website can baldly state: "Mr Galloway did not submit a statement" in connection with this episode, then regardless of the rights and wrongs of any of the rest of it, surely ANYTHING published by the US Government is extremely suspect?

Unless I have something wrong, they appear to be stating that Galloway said nothing, whereas it looked very much as if he actually said quite a lot. Are we wittnessing the blatant re-writing of history?
Posted on: 22 May 2005 by JeremyD
I'm sure that if Galloway submitted one he will be only too happy to show everyone - unlike the letters he says he sent to the Senate. From Page 2 of the link I posted above (
Unmitigated Galloway
):
quote:
Denouncing the hearings as a show-trial the previous week, he had claimed that he had written several times to the subcommittee (whose members he has publicly called "lickspittles") asking to be allowed to clear his name, and been ignored. The subcommittee staff denies possessing any record of such an overture. Taking a position near where he was sitting, I asked him loudly if he had brought a copy of his letter, or letters. A fresh hose of abuse was turned upon me, but I persisted in asking, and after awhile others joined in--receiving no answer--so at least he didn't get to sit gravely like a volunteer martyr.

Without going into Ary's pendantics about Anti-semitism (With Saddam himself being a Semite) I thought Laura Bush's veiled visit in Jerusalem rather well timed after the Currant Bun episode, if I were a cynic ? I'd even come to think it wasn't a coincidence, but I'm sure the powers (that are /rather than be) will assure us all that it's been on the diary for months, innit.
Somebody told me long ago that when Arab women (sometimes men too) bought goods from M&S they'd cut the labels out, now dare's a ting.

Fritz Von Anti-Jewish should become the term I feel, when it has to be unfortunately used, innit Big Grin

P.S. Private Eye has been running an in depth look into Mr G's antics over the last few months (not too mention years) and it seems to me the only big Poopa on his plate was the declining to comment on human rights abuses whils't on a recent visit to Bangladesh (I think ?), innit Big Grin in other words no more/less than any other Politician would do

When I consider the crocodile tears that were shed by all and sundrie (as well as on this forum) over the death of Ken Bigley, and what I've just seen on the news quite extraordinary. Many may have seen/heard about the case of a British guy being shot by an Israeli soldier a few years back, while he was trying to protect Palestinian kids (obviously not the Israeli version). The soldier is being tried for murder (the guy died many months later in a UK hospital from his wounds) (Soldier is moaning it's unfair becouse if it had been a Palestinianno case would have been brought ( so thazt's allright then innit). The real hammer was the soldiers defence lawyer blatantly and fucking arrogantly blaming the British hospital & Doctors for the death. This sheer afrontery should be addressed (maybe by Gorgeous George as he's fondly known as), and in my last post I mentioned the phrase anti-Jewish, maybe for the sake of the millions of respectable Jews around the world it should seriously be contained as anti-Israeli sentiment when the need sadly arises Cool

Pish: Even my NHS critisisms wouldn't go that bloody far.

We only recognise time by the events occurring around us, innit Big Grin
