PC world experts!

As we have extended cover on our PC I can't do anything to the hardware. So I got the guys in our local PC world to fit a new hard drive as I was running out of space. After having the PC for 7 hours they managed the task.I only later found that when I came to copy some discs that neither the CD rom or DVD burner work any more. The DVD at least opens but neither are even listed in the device manager.I should have noticed earlier when thr new hard drive had the same letter as one of the optical drives used to have.
Don't you just love experts?

Fitting an additional hard drive to a PC should take just a few minutes, and even replacing a small drive with a larger one shouldn't normally take too long.

Drive number allocations aren't difficult to change, however first of all you'll need to ensure that the optical devices are still connected (as they might have put the new drive onto the 2nd controller cable that the optical drives would usually be on). Initially it'd be best to boot your PC into the BIOS to see if the devices are registering.

Why not take it back and get them to do the job properly?

I would be tempted to go inside myself and see what they have done. It would be quicker than taking it back, and it wouldn't invalidate the warranty because they'd never know now that the new drive is in there.

I am in the process of doing that.

I will on my way to the return.
I'll report later.

A loose cable was the diagnosis. I could not see it when I peeped inside. Any way it's all working as per.
