Hi Naheed,

Not sure you are looking for a CDSI or CDSII.

I know you live in London, my dealer just told me last Fri, that a customer wants to sell his (could be her???) CDSII & XPS, they are two and half years old, the price is around GBP 4,000.-
So I got mine already, perhaps some of you are interested, I think it's good price, no?

Just for your info.

cheers
Martin

I would suggest:

CDS/CDSPS £1400-£1800(Nexel ring dependent)
CDSPS £400-600 (+£150 if black burndy)
XPS £1400-1600
CDS2/XPS £3000-3500

They are all quite rare but now is probably not the best time to sell. Wait for the dark nights for a better return

Hi Naheed,

I think GBP 3,850 is for an older player, right!

Anyway, I know you are using Mana soundbases, phase 4, wow! I always wants to get a pair of soundbases for a start, then add on later. I have searched the forum for soundbases often and read most of them.

I believe you have added them on stage by stage, you can tell me more in details, as an user, with unbiased view.

Can I send e-mail to you on this, given that you have time and willing to do so, of course.

cheers

Before you plump for the CDS1, also try to hear the Resolution Audio Opus 21 - it's cheaper (£2800) and you may be very surprised and impressed indeed (as I was). On the other hand, maybe it won't be your cup of tea, but it's worth looking into, especially as it killed any lingering thoughts of buying a CDS2/XPS or CDX/XPS stone dead in my case...

Jon, you're right! I've corrected my post.

I managed to collect the cds1/cdps late last night.

Anyway it was only switched off for ~2hrs, and intial impressions were only a slight improvement vs. my CDi, guess some settle-in is required frown

Naheed, I was unhappy for a week with my CDS. Then I realized I hooked the burndy up wrong - using thecorrect direction fro the hookup plus a week's warm up made it great!

Phil - the normal direction band on my Burndy, fell off so the guy replaced it with a sticker, which is at the cds end (which i believe is correct)

Nice one, Naheed! Circa £2000 for a CDSI I would expect.

So how long before you make it a CDSII? wink

'enjoyed your SBL thread on the other forum.

I have no doubt that in your system, the Opus 21 is a giant-killer as it was designed to work with DNM, so there are some issues of synergy here.

When I was at your place, your system showed a lot of potential (on vinyl replay with good recordings it was already there imho), and I shudder (almost) to think how good it probably sounds now.

Given that my amps are also non-Naim, should I ever have the funds for a better CD player, then the RA Opus 21 should definitely be on my shortlist.

Is it that much better than a CDX with Music Works - the latter being the thing missing when you tried the CDS2?

Regards,

Steve.

I don't know whether it was 'designed to work' but the fact that it was made by the same people who make the DNM amps would kinda suggest that tests for voicing may have involved the DNM amps. Nonetheless, I've heard it in an all-Naim system (82/HC/250) which sounded great, and also some more obscure stuff, including a big valve outfit. Each system shone, which made me question just how much the source really is contributing - a lot, was my conclusion!

Right now it's boxed up, sadly - my auditions being done with a 'similar to' system rather than at home - it's just not possible due to various things, mainly the fact that I've been selling my house (actually, have just sold for 50%+ over the asking price, so I'm in happy land indeed!). However, it's sure to sound much better than it was with the stand-in, and the fact that it's much cheaper than its realistic competition is very nice indeed...

Sure, you should try to hear it. However, given that you love the CDS2 and I was relatively unimpressed, there's always the possibility that you may prefer the CDS2 route - after all, at that level it's all about personal preference...

Much much better - it's in a different league, although the caveat is that it's a different sound, so it's a preference thing. However, at the price it is much better than I had any right to expect it to be... and the great thing is that it's a no-compromise player - it's not about PRaT or Round Earth - it's beyond that. In my opinion, of course.
