Knackered tweeters

Friday 13th syndrome has hit me this year!

I forgot to switch off the 250 when giving it a clean/wipedown with a dry cloth, and with the resulting static feedback discharge have fried my tweeters in my Keilidhs!

Oh I feel such a prat... and even worse will have to live without my system for at least a week or two.

Oh yes, so it is!

I've just borrowed a pair of Royd RR1's from my dealer for the weekend so now I'll have to be extra careful.

RR1's

Very open, detailed, articulate etc...but I've just discovered how badly my 8x11ft room booms!

This has been a bit of a problem even with my Rega Kytes but with the Royds it's worse because they go several octaves lower! I'll call my dealer tomorrow for advice.

At the dealers they sounded really nice using Naim CD5/Nait1. Actually, while I'm writing this I'm listening to the Antonio Live CD and finding it hard to concentrate as the music is just so much more compelling. And thats using a much inferior CD player to the Naim.

I'm definitely going to get this room sorted soon.

Phew - Steve from Audiofile came out the same day and replaced the Keilidh tweeters - apparently these are the same units that are used in the £6k Keltiks! This explains the £160 replacement cost - I hope. Anyway, good to be back to normal; it's amazing how much leading edge definition is lost when the tweeters are not working!

Rob - don't panic - I think I was a little unlucky as well as a little careless. Using a cloth & a duster type thingy, I'd built up sufficient static charge when I was cleaning up around the back to discharge from the 250/Hi-Cap connection into the speakers. As I'm using Mana stands as well, this probably didn't help.

I'll definitely switch off the 250 in future before doing any cleaning up...
