Dynaudio Contour 1.3mkII S/H or Focus 110 new .. with Supernait

Posted by: Evlampi on 19 April 2009

Hi there, I`m offered a s/h Dynaudio Contour 1.3 mkII at a good price.
I was about to get new focus 110 in several months.
I have heard the focus but not with my amp .. because there still quite a lot time to the purchase - saving money and making research Smile

But suddenly the 1.3 mkII offer appeared.

So I`m about to test them with my amp maybe next Sunday, unfortunately no chance to test the focus 110 or to compare them side by side.

I have to react quickly Smile

The amp is Naim Supernait.

So ..neglecting the price ... is there anyone having experience with both these speakers?

The room now is small - 13m2 but i hope soon will be something about 20m2

contour range is up from the focus range so 'should' be better. but try them with your amp and use A5 for a true picture

Evlampi,

I am running contour 1.1s (smaller than the 1.3s) with 202/250. I had a 200 before but felt the 1.1s, which are quite inefficient, needed more power to get the bass going. They now sound wonderful for such a small speaker and I am sure the 1.3s are capable of great things. If you like how they sound with the amp they are worth serious consideration over the focus line. For these dynes, however, you should also consider having good stands and being able to position them well away from a rear wall. I'm guessing the 1.3s are a bit more efficient than the 1.1s, so the Supernait may be good to make them go.

Let us know what your thoughts are after the demo...

Cheers,
Mike

I've been listening to the Contour S1.4s with an XS + Flatcap for a couple of weeks. It's a wonderful speaker. The combination rocks! Before I purchased this set up I listened to Supernait with the S1.4s and chose the XS + Flacap because I already had an external DAC (Bel Canto Dac 3) and felt the combo most suited my needs and budget. I don't have experience with the focus, though.

I heard the 2.2's (not exactly sure of model#) at the house of the assistant concert master of The Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

What can I say....blew me away and he didn't even have them set up properly at all. They were plunked down randomly almost behind his grand piano where they weren't imaging ideally but beautiful music was pouring out of them.

He had some 'laser guided amp' (huh?) that was driving them with a tight grip that was in complete control of the Dyn's.
