"A London Concert"
John Holloway - Violin
Jaap ter Linden - Cello
Lars Ulrik Mortensen - Harpsichord
Naim CD037
John Holloway, Jaap ter Linden and Lars Ulrik Mortensen are three of the most highly respected Baroque musicians on the planet. They have performed together for many years, winning awards for their work as a trio and as individuals.

“A London Concert” features music by composers who lived or worked in London during the early 18th Century; Handel, Babell, Arne, Geminiani, Festing and Veracini. This disc provides a unique opportunity to listen to a good, varied programme of the kind that would have been frequently attended by the concert-going public in the 1700s.
John, Jaap and Lars Ulrik have produced a wonderful disc that showcases not only the music, but also their talent as musicians. There is a joyous feel to the music, a combination of the pieces chosen and the relish with which the trio play. This thoughtful compilation enables the listener to hear some of Handel’s less frequently recorded music, together with rarely heard works by his contemporaries.

“A London Concert” is the first in a planned series of discs by the trio. Subsequent CDs will feature music by composers who lived and worked in other European cities during the Baroque period.

The latest recording available on The Naim Label was beautifully recorded by Ken Christianson at St Martins Church, East Woodhaye; a well respected venue for many fine classical recordings on labels such as ECM, Decca
and Harmonia Mundi.

A really intertesting disc, the sleeve notes by John Holloway makes for a good read.

These chaps influenced by Handel and Corelli travelled to London in the early 1700's (a weathly place at the time). Geminiani from Lucca taught Festing who inturn taught Arne and my favourite Verancini, was acknowleged in the 18th century as one of the foremost violinists of his time. Wonderful feeling in his music.
