CD 3.5 question - ErRR!

Posted by: Mark Packer on 03 September 2001

Having moved to a new house and finally unpacked my 3.5, removed the transit bolt etc. It now intermittently skips and fails on almost every disc. Sometimes saying ERR and sometimes just stuttering slightly. The problem on any disc doesn't happen twice at the same spot.

I've checked for dust, damaged discs, levelled the player, and even tried a mains filter etc. but the problem continues.

Any sgestions as to what's going one here. It's driving me crazy!

regards,

Mark

This sounds like a puck problem to me. Do a forum search for Puck

Time for a new puck, opps there goes another 20 quid!

Mine CD3s only problems ever was the puck, perhaps you left it on the spindle for ages or something.

Try rotating the rubbers a little bit first to get more grip.

How long was your CD3 left in storage?

The CD 3.5 was in it's box for about 3 weeks. Previously it was somewhere which was hot and humid.

I've cleaned the transport with Blu-Tac and cleaned and rotated the rubbers.

The problem still occurs randomly. It will fail twice in the same spot and then play it 6 times in a row flawlessly. Does it need a service or just a new puck?

Try letting it run continuously for a few days - perhaps the head is not moving as free as it should do.
