Massive Attack - Splitting The Atom - 5th October

Posted by: Chief Chirpa on 02 September 2009

Splitting The Atom, a four track EP is out next month, featuring vocals from Elbow's Guy Garvey, Martina Topley-Bird, and Tunde from TV On The Radio.

Their fifth proper album is set to follow early next year - adding to the star guest list... Damon Albarn and Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval. Unfortunately for Naim, vocals recorded for the album by Phantom Limb's Yolanda Quartey, who's previously sang live with Massive Attack, apparently haven't made the final cut. (I still haven't heard Phantom Limb).

More details on Massive Attacks's website / MySpace, including a few tracks I'd not heard before, such as the soundtrack recordings 3D has done recently - Massive Attack featuring Snoop - what's not to like?!

Grant Marshall is back on board this time, so hopefully a return to form for my one-time favourite band?

If the new stuff they played at last year's Meltdown is anything to go by the album should be stunning (unlike the 100th Window).

Good news (though obviously dwarfed by Denis' scoop on Henry Fool).

There is a story behind Yo's non-feature on the Massive album. But we'll save that for a rainy day!

Still raining, Simon.

Tracklisting:

Splitting The Atom [featuring 3D, Daddy G, Horace Andy]
Pray For Rain [featuring Tunde from TVOTR]
Psyche [featuring Martina Topley-Bird]
Bulletproof Love [featuring Guy Garvey]

You can listen to all of Pray For Rain (funnily enough) at Pitchfork, here.

Simon, I'm guessing the ever-earnest, po-faced Brizzle pair told Yolanda off for smiling, right?

Here they are on the cover of their new EP:

Cheer up, fellas.

So, Simon, as you have just confirmed the BBQ for next year, would you be so good as give us the dates for our diaries. Big Grin

Cheers

John

PS, played my vinyl copy of Phantom Limb last night, fantastic! Wondering if a little attention could be paid to making the run out grooves quieter.

No probs, Simon!

YOu can listen to Bulletproof Love, featuring a scary-sounding Guy Garvey here, courtesy of The Grauniad.

Big Grin Sorry, got a new cartridge that I'm still be over protective of, so the "thunk, thunk" has me running to the TT instead of chilling.

And I've spotted the non-answer on BBQ dates....
