Online Tax Services AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH
Posted by: Blueknowz on 03 February 2010
My wife is a Tax consultant,up until Saturday morning she was able access HM Revenue & Customs site, then later that day she tried logging in again she could not gain access. A message on screen said you have entered the wrong ID or Password etc, (she only discovered this when her Tax software program indicated that the files she sent had been rejected) So she requested a new one which did not work , subsequently she was sent 2 further passwords which also did not work. She has been on the H.M.R.&C helpline for most of the last 2days. The last person she spoke to suggested removing all cookies etc in both Firefox & Explorer, ran all Anti virus & Malwarebytes & Superanti spyware nothing found, still did not work, we are now waiting for a more senior person to get back to us!.We did get a message from Windows a couple of times saying "The password you entered does not match the one in Windows" .So is there anything in Windows which could still be blocking the password?

Is there a cookie to delete?

I was having trouble with E-Bay and Beneden W/S then here, until I realised I had switched cookies off.

I had the same trouble. It was alot easier to go to the office. Job done in about 10 minutes.
The online tax self-assessment is too much hard work for me, abit like windows. Give me a paper and pen any day.

It could very easily be something at their end Jim, rather on your PC. The IR (or their modern incarnation) are no strangers to messing up software.
I remember when self assessent first came out and quite reasonably the programme the IR produced required that an age be input. I remember a friend trying his hardest to meet this requirement by putting in his date of birth in as many configurations he could think of, but no, the software refused to play.
He then had a bit of inspiration. The guidance notes gave a date of birth in their example. He put that date of birth into the software - and it worked!
It turns out that the IR had set the software up in such a way that it would only accept one DOB.
There you go
