Thanks - I have come across the 50's Masters Box Set in my internet travels. The only problem is that there are also two additional box sets - 60's masters and 70's masters. I was trying to make a single purchase instead of three box sets.
Then again sound is of the utmost importance so if these are the best sounding.
Thanks
Gregg
PS a quick ebay search showed that this set is also available in vinyl! Which set do you have?

Wow. I didn't know they were available on vinyl or I wouldn't have bought the cd sets. they must cost an arm and a leg.

The 50's 5 cd box set is great, a true rocknroller

For a more condensed career spanning collection I have the Artist of the Century vinyl box set - each lp covering a different phase of his career over 5 lps. A quick search on amazon shows this is available on CD for £12 - not sure if vinyl can still be had.
Sound quality - on the lps at least - is excellent

Not really. Costs twice that of the CD set however...it is vinyl

So is there a consensus that this is the set to buy?

I'd also recommend Volume 2, but why not go for some of Elvis's individual albums.

Believe it or not I was without a turntable for a few years in the early 90s when this box was first released and I did not even think to look for it on vinyl. That aside this is a great set.

Stu
Just looking for a good compilation.
Matt
I am guessing that it will be nicer sounding on vinyl. Vinyl was still strong when it was released.

Stuff you cant and have never been able to buy.
I am not talking bit torrent downloads internet stuff.
This stuff is all vinyl/and shed loads of film.
Original home movie super8 and after.
They had to go to him a few years back to get film to use in a documentry.
He has thousands of Elvis recordings.
Stu
what a catch. in a bar in nasheville and a guy
gave us direction to a record store in a dodgy part of town. i was amazed at the records there, spent a futune. the only set i would like is the complete set of elvis eps got a few. they fetch too much money. im sure if they released them they would be a success
