Tuning DVD

Hi all;

Any recommendations on DVDs that I can use to tune the image and sound for my home theater? I know there is a whole bunch of em' out there but I wanted first hand experience advice from the reasonable people that have Naim kit

BTW, some magazine reviewer said that he uses the software that is bundled with the animation movie "Cars". Really???

Any THX certified DVD has a calibration tool for brightness, contrast and geometry. You may check this too. You can also check this website where you'll be offered a free iso image to burn.

I've been using "Digital Video Essentials" for setting up my surround sound and video, but although it works pretty well, navigating the disk is a complete pain in the bum!

I've not looked at it myself, but the "Avia" test disk is supposed to be pretty good.

Thanks Ods. I downloaded and burned that french pattern DVD. But it doesn't instruct me as to what to do with the patterns regarding adjustments

Any advice?

Actually it seems like it should be used with a calibration software, which might make your task a bit more tricky. However, the best image you'll get from your gear is the image that will suit your taste... You'd be surprised by how your own eyes are quite a good calibration tool if you have a precise idea of what kind of image you want to get.

You've a couple of options here. Either buy Digital Video Essentials, or the Avia test DVD's. Both these contain sound and audio setup paterns etc. and talk you through exactly how to use them and what to do.

Alternatively, for video only you could look at something like SpiderTV, which automates doing the video side of it for you.

Thank you guys.... My projector should arrive in a week or so. I'll try to use that french software first. I did read up a bit and I think I'll be able to achieve some results with it. If things aren't optimum then I might go for Avia's stuff
