CD2 Puck lost inside player!

Posted by: bigtrak on 06 August 2003

Hi
The puck from my CD2 has got lost inside the player. I have done a seach but couldn't find nything on retrieving it. Is it just a case ofunscrewing the case and getting it out or is it a bit more complicated?
Thanks for your time

I haven't tried it on a CD2 but I believe it's simple, like you said.

I keep a spare now. The last one that vanished into my CD5 didn't appear to be doing any harm, so I left it there.

I lost mine (thought it was inside my player, but I opened it and couldn't find it). Naim kindly sent me another.

my drunken friend dropped a puck in my 3.5 once..he has a 10 feet restraining order against him now..

i was able to 'locate' the puck, then after unplugging the player and holding firmly on both sides I GENTLY flipped the player so the front of the player is facing the floor..you will hear the puck slide..

while doing this i opened the tray, careful not to let it swing open..and then 'tilt' the player so the puck slides toward the tray opening and falls out..the key to this procedure is patience--be very gentle , NO sudden jerky movements.

at first i was scared to turn the player upside down but figured this has to happen during shipping so it shouldn't hurt..

reading over my post this maneuver sounds difficult but if you have a little coordination it is not..

also, my puck was located directly inside the tray opening, if you have jostled your player and the puck has slid back into the electronics this may not be as easy..

good luck..

Where is Petrik when you need him!

Just leave it there and buy a new one. It will not move and you are more likely to cause damage by ripping the case apart if you do not know what you are doing.

Hi Bigtrak,

I too once lost a puck inside a player (actually a girl I had my eye on lost it but that's another story). I found that the drawer (of the 3.5) wouldn't open fully - the puck was in the area swept by the pivoted arm.

If yours is in this state, you won't need to turn it over, or even remove it from its shelf.

If yours is in this state just get a teaspoon, a torch and some blu-tak. Put the blu-tak on the end of the teaspoon handle and into the space 'inside' the curve of the drawer. Have the drawer half open so that there is a deep gap to go through. With the aid of the torch find the puck, reach in with the blu-tak'd spoon and dab it on top and extract it carefully through the gap.

Good luck!

Richard.

Mr BigTrak,

I think you definitely SHOULDNT flip or turn your CD2 over without at least first screwing the transit bolts in - you might unseat the suspended bits...

If its not currently interfering with the mechanism, I'd be very tempted just to go buy a new puck...

good luck!!!

I have a CD2 and have lost the puck inside. Its very easy to undo a couple of screws, slide the top off and retrieve the puck - you will be amazed how much spare space there is inside Smile

If you're not confident at this sort of thing get your dealer to do it and give it a clean inside for a few 10's of £ (happened to me once: can't remember how much it was, but not much!)

If you open up your unit it and get it wrong, you'll be well and truly PUCKED!

(Well somebody had to say it, didn't they?)
