WOW!

I decided to take advantage of the current availability of "old style" components and just replaced my 82/HC/HC with a 52/SC. WOW! A terrific upgrade for anyone else considering such a move.

have just replaced my 82/hi with 2 year old 52/super combo. Couldn't believe the difference - the biggest improvement I've ever made. To use a visual analogy everything is now much more focussed and coherent.
System is now CDS2/52/250/SBL's (+NAT02) and that's it. I love the old style.

Cheers

my system is now cdx/72hc/140. i intend to upgrade the pre to an 82 at least. what do you suggest, is the upgrade from 82/hc/hc to (only!) 82/sc also terrific? if it is, i would go straight to a sc with my 72!

Rocketeer,

If you are intending to upgrade then I'd do the supercap straight away. I've gone 72/82/52 via hi-cap and supercap over the last year and the supercap is a considerable improvement over the hi-cap and the 'step' in terms of audible improvement at least equals the jump in pre terms (esp 72 to 82 IMHO). I used the super with the 72 and it was a very good combination, if a little rough and ready; very dynamic - PRaT by the bucketload. I eventually went back to 72/hi but that was for other reasons (like being able to sleep at night and feeling guilty about not listening for at least 2 hours every day) rather than purley sonic ones.
