Naim in Vietnam

Posted by: JohnMak on 27 February 2004

I'm still enjoying my trial period with the 1993 Naim SBL's but would appreciate some feedback from experts on the followingFrownThe bass is fast and tight which I love, but I would like a little more of it)
1. The gasket seal is broken .... will the bass improve when I get this sorted?
2. The spikes supplied do not fit the holes in the bottom of the frame. I'm sure proper spikes will help.
The speaker cable I'm using is el cheapo Chinese, locally available stuff.
3. The CDP is a Sony 900ES DVD/SACD player which is probably not up to the same standard as a dedicated Naim CDP - what to buy though ... CD5, CD5i or CDX2 - how big are the differences?
4. The amp I'm using may not do the bass stuf so well. It is a Sony 9000ES multi channel home theater amp. I may have a chance to buy a pair of used Naim 135's - though of course I would really like the new series NAP 200 or 250. Naim pre-amps are a mystery to me.

I will have a copy of the SBL set-up instruction tomorrow to try and fix the gasket seal but still now spikes so I'm really going to have to take the punt pretty quick as the dealer is pressing me to sell him my new Dynaudio 1.3 SE's as he has a buyer.

Any advice on the getting the best bass from the SBL's will be appreciated and the best decision re 135's versus the new NAP 200 or NAP 250 and a suitable preamp will be appreciated.

Regards,
PS. Auditioning the electronics is not possible. I have to make the decision and go with it.

The 135's have been replaced by the naim 300 in the new lineup.

You could try the CDX2/202/200/hicap combination which would do the business for you.

On the other hand you could match the 135's with an 82 or 52 and supercap.

CD players, I suggest you go straight to CDS2 if you can afford it; If not the CDX2 which is a very good player.

A CDS2/52/supercap/135's would be my choice in your situation.

Regarding spikes, ask your dealer to get a set from Naim.

I think you'll find that the NAP135 has been replaced by the NAPV145.........
The NAP300 is a stereo amplifier......

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......
